Thaiphoon- Dupont

Thaiphoon
2011 S St Nw, Washington, DC

www.thaiphoon.com

Thyphoon is a hippish stablishment with a full bar right at the entrance. The dining room offers and ample view to S street (great for people watching.)The menu offers a large variety of Thai dishes at remarkably affordable prices. The wine selection is not huge, but definitively good enough for even the pickiest drinkers (like myself.)

My friend and I usually order the Thaiphoon noodles, wide rice noodles with an array of seafood delights and perfectly crunchy vegetables. I usually request mine to be made firey hot with extra spice. This dish is delish. Appetizers are also a must, their calamari is amazing and their Satay with its delightfull sauces are just exquisite. The service is always prompt and extremely attentive. The cocktails at Thaiphoon are mean mean mean, if you like your liquor, the bartender definitively has a heavy hand. Thaiphoon is definitively one of our favorite places to visit within my friend's circle, not just 'cause of the strong drinks and the delicious food. It is a plance where everyone is always happy with their food.

My overall Rating: 8
Definitively a place to go with your pals, for a great meal, strong drinks and a nice contemporary ambiance.

Lauriol Plaza

1835 18th St Nw, Washington, DC
(202) 387-0035
Located in upper Dupond Circle area, Lauriol Plaza is house in a huge loft style building with lots of windows and a rooftop that permits seating all year round.
LP is always hopping, specially on the weekends were it is literally filled to capacity. Often times the wait times are beyond one hour, but it is a wait that is worth the patience. LP doesn't take reservations, but you can always kill some time at their bar, savoring their large array of alcoholic beverages, such as mojitos, margaritas or mango-ritas,or Sangria. The pitchers are about $24 a pop, but they do contain a strong kick of liquor, so its well worth your money. They also have a vas selections of tequila shots, cervezas, and an extent list of wines.

The food, is a mix of your classic Tex-Mex faves, Spanish and Cuban specialties. In fact you will be able to find, Fajitas and Paella on the same menu, or even the so delicious Peruvian Lomo Saltado. Portions tend to be quite huge so it is a good idea to actually split an appetizer and entry with your partner/s in crime.
Some other dishes I've tried and have enjoyed are the Brazilian Salad wich comes devinely loaded with chicken or beef or a combo. The fajitas are fantastic too. You pretty much cannot go wrong with anything in the menu. At least I have never heard anyone be unhappy.
Service is very friendly and attentive, even during the busiest of times.
Overall Rating=9.5 This has become one of my favorite summer spots, their mojitos are extremely addictive and they will have you knocked off your socks in no time.
