Tiki's- Da bomb fried chicken

Tiki's
Corner of 7th and ! NW.
Opens daily until 7pm, Closed on Sundays.

Tiki is a true hole in wall, it has a small foyer with the menu in big letters on the wall, a big bullet proof glass that separates the foyer with the cashier cooking area. This place is old and it has been here since the neighbordhood was truly bad (hence explains the bullet proof glass)and actually part of the bullet proof glass has been taken down since it has become unnecessary.
I had heard about Tikis chicken. In fact one day, one of my neighbors had a bag full of chiken, that smelt so delicious I had to ask where it was from "the corner he said." pointing towards Tiki's direction.
This stuck to my mind so one day that week I made a visit. A visit I have since repeated many times. During my first visit I made a couple pals at the waiting area, a young black woman from south Georgia who had relocated many years back when she had desided to start working at Harvard medical, she missed souther fried chicken terribly. In fact Tiki is where she would come to fullfill her cravings. She told me how no other fried chicken compared in the city, another older black lady concurred about the food, she insisted that she refused to go to Popeyes if Tiki's was open. Being my first visit these news just filled more my anticipation. I ordered sweet tea and my 3 wings and took it home wich is around the corner, this nice little meal for a mere $4. When I came in, to the potent smell my cat came flying to me like a bear with honey. The smell was indeed excitting and it made my mouth water. At last I sank my teeth in this delicious crunchy meat. Still freshly fried and delicately moist in the middle. The flavors kept coming left and right, it was superb. I had died and gone to heaven and taken my cat along. What else can a girl as for? I shared with the cat, who Loved it. He kept pawing me for an hour later requesting more. Sorry I kept saying I want more myself. Later on I learned 6 wings is a much better choice. 4 for me, 2 for the cat. The fried shrimps are amazing too, they come with a delicious cocktail sauce.
Overal experience: The place is tiny and shady, but the food its Fabulous, best fried chicken I ever had. During nice weather, you can take some of this chickie and eat it at the park. Share some with your dog, remember he is your best friend.
